The TCU Gay Straight Alliance is an official TCU student organization. Our primary goals are to foster acceptance and understanding between students, which we achieve by educating our peers and staging events and maintain a safe space for members, no matter what their sexual orientation, sex, gender identity, race, religion or nationality. We pride ourselves on having a tremendously diverse group of members, and even though our primary function is to serve as a social, political, and support organization for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community and its allies, we welcome all students into our organization.
In the interest of promoting an environment filled with acceptance and mutual understanding at TCU and beyond, we coordinate social events, group discussions, and on-campus programs that promote the support and unity of all students and student groups on campus. We hope to continually advance knowledge and communication, and build bridges between our fellow students by offering opportunities to learn from each other.
We have a lot of fun during our events, socials, programs and discussions, and we make sure to enjoy ourselves even as we participate in volunteer work and do our part in giving back to the community. The GSA is hoping to reach out further in the future, and our goals include tutoring, mentoring and giving support to LGBTQ youth in the DFW area. We also plan to volunteer with the AIDS Outreach Center, PFLAG Fort Worth, and Youth First Texas. We are more than our sexual orientation, and we hope to communicate and demonstrate it to the world through our deeds that we are complex, fully-fledged, effective human beings in our own right. We will make a difference.
